The Spelling Strategies Course for Schools consists of 15 units that progressively introduce and reinforce key spelling strategies and rules. Each unit follows a consistent six-step structure, making it easy to follow. The school version extends the Home Access course with two additional steps, giving teachers and tutors the tools to deliver a more complete and effective learning experience.
Each unit begins with an engaging pre-recorded video lesson that introduces the key spelling strategies for that unit. Learners actively participate by using a whiteboard and marker, with support from an adult when needed. It’s a fun and interactive way for everyone to learn together!
Each video lesson in the program is supported by a printable workbook designed to reinforce learning. You can download and print these from your subscription, or schools can purchase professionally printed copies at a discounted price.
Children who struggle with spelling need to master the most commonly used words in the English language to confidently tackle everyday writing tasks. Each workbook includes a list of 10 high-frequency words to focus on, conveniently placed on the back cover.
The online quizzes are a fun and simple way for your child to finish each unit and for you to track their progress. Simply click the link provided in your subscription, and your child can complete the quiz in about 10 minutes!
Each unit includes a short list of words designed to reinforce the spelling strategies covered in the video lesson. If you're working with a child, simply read the words aloud for them to write and then explore the spelling secrets provided with the list! This step is an optional addition for those seeking a thorough approach.
Children who struggle with spelling often have difficulties with writing as well. Dictation is an effective way to improve both skills because the learner can focus on essential writing skills like spelling, handwriting and using punctuation without the added pressure of deciding what to write. In dictation, an adult reads sentences aloud, and the learner uses the spelling skills they've learned to write the sentences. As with step 4, this is an optional part of the program, included for those seeking a more thorough learning experience.
